Shanghai Forum 2022 Theme Interpretation
Asia's Responses to the Plural Global Challenges
The world is going under turmoil and profound changes unseen in a century. COVID-19 is still ravaging the world and has made continuous impacts in new forms. With international conflicts and frequent flare-ups of regional hotspot issues, a life of peace and security has become ever more precious. The journey to global economic recovery remains a difficult and tortuous one, while the stability of the financial sector is becoming increasingly fragile. Besides, the more and more extreme climate change, the acute challenges of green development, the fluctuating energy prices, and the increasing number of people living in hunger are all problems we have to face together.
In general, security and development have always been the two vital interdependent themes in the plural global challenges. Good development is sustainable and true development is development for all. A growing, prosperous, stable and dynamic Asia is in the common interest of China and other countries in the region. Global governance has entered its Asia period. Asia has the capability and responsibility to be the impetus of the global development, by calling on and coordinate the international community to strengthen cooperation in areas ofpublic health, climate change and green development, regional security, cyber security, biosecurity, energy security, food security, poverty alleviation, development financing, digital economy, inequality reduction and connectivity, so as to steer the global development toward a new stage of balanced, coordinated and inclusive growth.
As an Asia-based forum which has always been dedicated to address the most urgent and crucial issues of the world, it is the imperative of Shanghai Forum to explore how China and Asia find the right way through the thorns and step forward, continuing to make contribution to the development of the world under the plural global challenges.
