On the morning of May 28, the three-day Shanghai Forum 2012 concludes successfully. It is reported that this year’s Forum has set a record in range of topics and the number of guests in the seven years’ history of Shanghai Forum. More than 500 guests in political, business and academic areas have heated and deep discussions about how could Asian countries further cooperate and choose strategies about economy, finance, trade, politics, international relations, laws, urbanization, social development, population, ecological environment, energy, etc. in the next decade.
Paul Volcker, former Chairman of Federal Reserves, and Adam Przeworski, Professor of Politics and Economy at New York University, give their keynote speeches at the closing ceremony. Zhu Zhiwen, Chancellor of Fudan University, and Park In-kook, President of KFAS, deliver their addresses. Lin Shangli, Vice President of Fudan University, hosts the closing ceremony.
Shanghai Forum 2012 Consensus is officially released at the closing ceremony. It is pointed out in the Consensus that Asia’s position and function in the global economic order is continuously growing in prominence. Each Asian nation should vigorously drive forward transformational development and deepen Asia’s internal collaboration to ensure continued sustainable growth of Asia’s economy over the next ten years. It is also stated in the Consensus that each Asian nation should enable each government’s positive role in dealing with crises, reform the international currency system, restructure the global economic order, and effectively overcome energy limitations. It is suggested in the Consensus that to realize successful development and sustainable economic growth in 2011-2020, Asian nations should strive to fully utilize advantages in population, urbanization processes and systems innovation. At the ending of the Consensus, it writes: "Asia will be at a crucial historical period over the future decade. More than any time in history, Asia needs safeguarding regional peace, strengthen internal cooperation, promote urbanization process, and promote comprehensive and sustainable development of regional economy and society. During the period, Asian nations should adhere to cooperation and innovation, strive to promote the development of transition, and further enhance Asia’s position, in order to create a century of Asia’s prosperity. "
