Governor of The Central Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank, MNB)
György H Matolcsy, who received his doctorate degree in economics in 1984,
has been the governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank since 4 March, 2013. He
was the political state secretary, personal economic advisor to Prime Minister
József Antall, head of the Economic Policy Secretariat and secretary of the
Economic Cabinet in Prime Minister’s Office in 1990. As representative of
the government of Hungary, he was member of the Board of Governors in
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in 1991-94,
and became Director of it in 1994. He was Minister of Economic Affairs in
2000-2002 and authored the Széchenyi Plan. In 2007, he founded Hungarian
Economic Development Institute and was Head of it till 2010. In 2010-2013,
he was Minister for National Economy, and was appointed as Governor of the
Magyar Nemzeti Bank in 2013.
György H Matolcsy was honored with the Barankovics Commemorative Coin
Award in 2013. His published books include Economic Balance and Growth
(2015), From Vanguard to Bringing Up the Rear (2008), etc.
