Chey Tae-won serves as the Chairman and CEO of SK Holdings. He oversees and orchestrates 86 companies that comprise SK Group.
Chairman Chey began his career in SK Group in 1991. He gained global insights and experience as the Managing Director at Yukong Ltd., now known as SK Innovation (previously SK Corp). He was appointed Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Group in 1998. With his innovative and dynamic leadership, the Group has steadily expanded over the years. As the 57th largest enterprise among the Fortune 500 in 2015, SK Group consists of 86 companies across many strategic industries of Korea, including energy, chemical, telecommunications, semiconductor and trading/services.
Chairman Chey was named as one of the “Global Leaders for Tomorrow” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in 1999. For a long time, he has been a key contributor in numerous business and civic organizations, including the World Economic Forum and the Boao Forum. Furthermore, as a strong advocate of the comprehensive UN goal of responsible corporate citizenship, Chairman Chey served on the United Nations Global Compact Board. He has also been an important member of the Brookings Institution’s International Advisory Council and the Advisory Board for the RAND’s CAPP(Center for Asia Pacific Policy).
In recent years, Chairman Chey has been deeply committed to strengthening the presence of Korea and its competitiveness in the global economy. In November 2010, he was appointed a Convener of the Working Group on Renewable Energy at the Seoul G20 Business Summit. In February 2016, he was named President of the Korea Handball Federation.
In February 2015, Chairman Chey authored a book titled <Social Enterprises: Building a Better World>. The acclaimed book shares his long belief in and passion for socially responsible business management of commercial enterprises.
Chairman Chey holds a B.A. in Physics from Korea University and completed a Ph.D. program in Economics at the University of Chicago.
