Liu Jinsong currently serves as Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs,responsible for Belt and Road Initiative (One Belt, One Road), International Industrial Cooperation, and World Economy Research. Established in October of 2012, his department is the youngest one among all the departments of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Liu Jinsong is also a member of the Board of Directors, the Silk Road Fund Co. Ltd.
Previously he served as Staff Member, Attaché, the Third Secretary, and Deputy Director of the Department of Asian Affairs. Later, he served as Research Director and Spokesman of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Political Section Director of the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee Bureau, Deputy Director-General of the Department of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs and Deputy Director- General of the Department of Policy Planning. Additionally, Liu Jinsong was also in charge of Asia-Pacific economic and security cooperation, Relations with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the South China Sea Issue, the North Korean Nuclear Threat, Tibet Issue, and Taiwan Issue.
Liu Jinsong received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Renmin University of China and then his Master of Arts from the Fletcher School in the United States.
