Yuan Zhigang

Dean, School of Economics, Fudan University

Yuan Zhigang, born in January 1958, is Dean of the School of Economics at Fudan University and a Doctoral Supervisor. He also serves as Director of Employment and Social Protection Research Center of Fudan University, head of Post-doctoral Station for Theoretical Economics at Fudan University, member of the Committee of University Affairs of Fudan University, Vice President of Shanghai Macroeconomics Association, member of Expert Consulting Committee on Policy-making of Shanghai Municipal Government, and consultant to Fujian Provincial People’s Government.

Yuan received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Hangzhou University in 1982 and Fudan University in 1987. He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 1993 from Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in France.

Yuan is a prolific writer and a regular contributor to academic journals. He has altogether published eight independent monographs, more than 20 edited books and two translations, in addition to more than 140 articles on an array of economics journals.His research fields cover non-equilibrium economic theory, macroeconomics, employment theory and social pension insurance.

Yuan is also a Candidate of the Thousands of Talents Project by the Chinese Ministry of Personnel and the New Century Outstanding Talent Project by Chinese Ministry of Education. His other major honors include: Outstanding Young Teacher of Shanghai Municipality, Top Prize of the Outstanding Teacher Award of Bao Steel Scholarship, Outstanding Postdoctoral Prizes of both Shanghai Municipality and the Nation, and the National Excellent Teacher Award in 2006. He was granted Special Allowance by the State Council and received the prestigious “Chang Jiang (Yangtze) Scholar” title in early 2008.
