Shanghai Forum 2013 Concluded Successfully

On the morning of May 27, ShanghaiForum 2013, which lasted for two days and a half, successfully concluded atFudan University. More than 500 guests from politics, business, academia all overthe world gathered together at Fudan University and held heated discussionsaround the theme of "Asia’sWisdom: Seeking Harmonious Development in Diversity ". Sub-forum seminarsand roundtables were arranged in various forms on political, financial, political,legal, urban, social, environmental, energy and other issues in the context ofeconomic globalization. Clash of ideas and blend of wisdoms were aimed at howto seize the strategic opportunities and to achieve the rise of Asia. Insights ofthe guest would definitely help Asia's prosperity and development.

On the closing ceremony, AndreasLöschel (Chairman, Commission of Experts for Monitoring EnergyTransformation, German Federal Government; Professor and Head of Department, Centrefor European Economic Research (ZEW); Professor of Economics, University ofHeidelberg) and Hélène Rey (Professor of Economics, London Business School; Fellowof the British Academy) delivered keynote speeches. Park In-kook (President,Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies) and Lin Shangli (Vice President, FudanUniversity) gave addresses. Feng Xiaoyuan (Vice President, Fudan University) presidedover the closing ceremony on the day.



Shanghai Forum Consensus 2013 wasalso officially released on the closing ceremony. The Consensus points out thatthe developed countries are facing a hard time in economic recovery and Chinaand other emerging countries are facing a downward pressure on economic growth.Continuous challenges and risks have provided Asia with fresh opportunities.We should gain experience from history and reality and make full useof our unique wisdom and cultural strengths, to overcome all obstacles anddifficulties lying ahead and to pursue coexistence and harmonious developmentdespite our differences. It is stated in the Consensus that the core of Asia’swisdom lies in inclusion in promoting unity and harmony in creating prosperity.We should spare no effort to deepen the regional economic and trade cooperationand advance the regional economic integration, so that the interests andbenefits are extended to all the countries and regions, the scientific andtechnological progresses and economic fruits cover all the people, andsustainable economic and social development is achieved. The Consensus suggeststhat Asia needs to be more forward-looking in leading technological innovations;more scientific and rational in promoting economic recovery and development; moreproactive and prudent in exploring institutional changes; more patient inpromoting regional cooperation; and more flexible in promoting regional peaceand stability. The Consensus concludes that in facing up to crises sweeping infrom the West, Asia is playing an increasingly important role in the world. Historyproves that if we want to turn Asian dynamics to the real rise ofAsia, Asian countries must be united in seeking consensusfrom diversity and achieving development in harmony. Asian countries shouldfully respect the differences between each-other, coordinate their positions andcarry out pragmatic cooperation, thus achieving win-win situations in theeconomic, political, social, cultural and environmental aspects. Asia’s wisdomis the wealth of all the people inAsia. It isthe ideological cornerstone of Asian countries to achieve harmoniousdevelopment in diversity.”
