Chey Tae-won

Chairman & CEO of SK Group


Mr. Chey Tae-won serves as the Chairman and CEO of SK Holdings. He oversees and orchestrates 121 companies (as of 2 January, 2020) that comprise SK Group.

Mr. Chey began his career in SK Group in 1991 and was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Group in 1998. With his innovative and dynamic leadership, the group has continued to grow and diversify and today has global operations across multiple industries, including energy, chemical, telecommunications, semiconductors and trading/services.

Mr. Chey is a key contributor to global and regional non-for-profit organizations such as the World Economic Forum and the Boao Forum. As a Chairman of the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS) and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS), he continues to bolster global outreach through the development of international academic exchanges. He has also founded knowledge sharing platforms in Asia including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hanoi, Bangkok and so on.

In 2014, Mr. Chey authored ‘New Attempt: Social Enterprise’, which was published in Korea to critical acclaim. The book underscores the importance of creating enabling ecosystems for social enterprises. In 2019, he co-authored a business case with Stanford University on SK’s ‘Double Bottom Line’, or the 

Firm’s innovative approach to implementing and adopting ESG accounting as a management system.

Mr. Chey holds a B.A. in Physics from Korea University and completed a Ph.D. program in Economics at the University of Chicago.
